Career Highlights:
Dan has participated in several research projects and engineering consultation projects (most projects as one of the principal investigators) funded by the national and local government science and technology organizations, such as NSFC, 973, 863, etc. In his doctor school, Dr. Dan presented a theoretical frame of intelligent civil & bridge structure. Dr. Dan advanced a damping modeling precision evaluation methods, and the concept of the damping damage. He also improves a modal parameter identification method on frequency domain. He affirms the condition monitoring as the control factor of SHM design, presents a standard designing procedure for Bridge Health Monitoring system(BHMS), including conceptual design, structure damage & performance evolution analysis, a life cycle cost analysis based bridge maintenance decision, and a maintenance aimed SHM scheme design scheme. On the basis of these theory studies, Dr. Dan and his colleagues complete a high quality SHM system containing 478 sensors on Donghai Bridge (http://health.donghai-bridge.com.cn/web and http://offline.donghai-bridge.com.cn/web/index.jsp# ). In this system, the online data process and online condition evaluation by Fuzzy inference system and AHP are realized. Dr. Dan now engages in the techniques of online feature extraction from the real life data monitored from above system, and several new BHMS for several novelty bridges in Shanghai and Guangdong, China. His related works were published at several international conferences, including IABSE06,IABSE07,IABMAS06,IISHM05, eta. Dr. Dan is a member of the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE), and a member of International Association for Bridge Maintenance And Safety (IABMAS). He is the author or co-author of more than 40 journal and conference papers and 10 technical reports.

Structural health monitoring, including following aspects: implementation and designing theory of Bridge health monitoring system and its application; smart material and structure applying in bridge structure; application of smart sensing technologies to civil engineering; health status prognosis and bridge evaluation by using monitoring data; earlier warning technologies for structural safety disaster (seismic, ship-bridge collision, overloading, extreme weather).
